International Students Experienced the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Longshan Black Pottery

The third window of Chinese and Foreign Cultural Carnival of soft ceramics making was successfully held in Cheng Ziya black pottery art museum. Hundreds of Chinese and international students learnt and experienced the intangible cultural heritage of Longshan black pottery and ceramic art together.

Ater arriving at the Cheng Ziya black pottery art museum in Zhang Qiu, participants paid a visit to Longshan culture museum. The heir of black pottery, a unique master Zhang Guoqing, told the story of his experience and introduced this kind of craftwork, which is regarded as an oriental art treasure. The students appreciated the exquisite pottery art work, which are as thin and light as eggshell, with the glowing surface. In the end, the students learnt to make pottery and carved their names on it by themselves.

The activity provided an opportunity to comprehend the valuable Chinese ancient culture for both Chinese and foreign students. Many participants had rich harvest and good response.

Jun from Korea said: “After I came to China, I want to participate in activities with Chinese characteristics. And I found the student union of CIE luckily. There are many Chinese friends and foreign friends in this organization, and I can make friends with all kinds of people. Not only can I make friends, but also experience many parts of Chinese culture. I have experienced ancient papermaking and pottery making. I'm really looking forward to the next event. I want to say to my Chinese friends, thank you very much. I have many happy memories.”

Xu Yimeng from Hong Kong of China said: “I'm so happy to join this pottery tour with my new foreign friends. I tried to make a pottery bowl with Hong Wanqing,my new friend from Indonesia. How excited we were! What's more, I got acquainted with King Caiyan,who comes from Korea. We learned each other's language and custom from each other on the bus. Anyway, I'm happy to be familiar with so many foreign friends. I hope our friendship will last forever.”

Sagara from Sri Lanka said:“We have a lot to offer in China, having different cultures in different countries. The art of black pottery vessels is extremely exciting. We feel that you are the highest in China. We have also thanked the Student Union for this experience.”

Denis from Bulgaria said: “I am very happy! It was very nice and pleased, to see other place, meet new people, make new things and we have seen some part from Chinese culture.”

Athit sun from Thailand said; “It taught me many things from the experience of doing something with many friends. I was very happy on that day and would like to say many thanks for this activity.”
