The award was conferred to 20 foreign experts by Shandong provincial government in honor of their significant contributions to the economic and social development of Shandong province.
Professor Kennichi Kakudois became visiting professor of SDU
Professor Kennichi Kakudois, a world-renowned endocrine pathologist, former dean of students at Wakayama Medical University, visiting professor of SDU from 1999, received his doctorate degree from Osaka University in 1977. .He has long devoted to Sino-Japanese friendship and academic exchanges with the School of Medicine, SDU. Since 1994, he has visited SDU a dozen times for academic communication, lectures, and cooperation in several international programs. He actively promoted the student exchange program between SDU and Wakayama Medical University, cultivated 11 Chinese doctoral students from SDU and co-published more than 120 SCI papers, making important contributions to the medical education of SDU and of Shandong province.

Professor Ralf Altmeyer,a German virologist with rich experience in basic and applied research of infectious diseases, received his doctorate degree in Microbiology from the 7th University of Paris in 1994. He is committed to inter-governmental and scientific research cooperation between China and Germany. He has worked at the HKU-Pasteur Research Center, the Institute Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Qingdao Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention succesively. In 2014, he won the Shanghai "White Magnolia Award ", and was received by Chinese President Xi Jinping on foreign experts meeting. In 2015, he joined SDU as a distinguished professor, and managing director of Shandong University-Helmholtz Institute of Biotechnology. The chemical formula patent invention he invented has filled the blank of Chinese diseases control and prevention in "hand, foot and mouth disease", an infectious disease common in children which is caused by EV71 virus infection. The invention is of great significance to the academic research and the development of pharmaceutical industry in the field of infectious diseases in China.
"Qilu Friendship Award" is the top award created by Shandong Provincial People's Government to commend foreign experts for their outstanding contributions to the economic and social development of Shandong, and is conferred on around 20 experts each year since its establishment in 1993. Up to now, 478 foreign experts in total have won the award.
