An international symposium on "historical relics and historical memory under Sino-German relations" was jointly held by Shandong University (SDU) and German political foundation Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) in Jinan, Shandong province on Oct 22 and 23.
In the conference report and sub-conference report, more than 60 experts and scholars from 30 plus universities, research institutes and museums, such as Goethe University Frankfurt, German Museums Association, and Qingdao World War I Site Museum, carried out extensive and in-depth discussions on a series of high-value and innovative topics in online and offline venues.
The topics included "the research value and practical significance of historical relics", "exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and German civilizations", "the history and present conditions of Chinese cultural relics housed in German museums", "German historical and cultural heritage in China", "the theory and practice of historical memory", as well as "the research and teaching of globalization and global history".
Other participants also discussed issues related to the history of Sino-German relations from the perspectives of historical theories and the history of German historiography.
Wang Qilong, executive vice-president of SDU, said that opening up is the basic feature and inherent requirement of modern education, as well as an important trend in world higher education.
SDU has vigorously implemented internationalization in recent years. The university has forged effective cooperation with many well-known German universities and top scientific research institutes in talent training, discipline construction and scientific research cooperation, which provides us with an innovative platform for global cooperation. Wang said.
The seminar was expected to study the historical and cultural heritage of China and Germany comprehensively and systematically, which will further consolidate Sino-German relations, Wang added.
