The Environmental Research Institute of Shandong University (SDU) and the School of Computer Science and Technology signed a cooperation agreement on the Qingdao Campus of SDU on Nov 26.
According to the agreement, both sides will cooperate on discipline co-construction based on the research, development (R&D) and application of an environmental big data service platform.
By integrating environmental and computer sciences, the new discipline is expected to cultivate high-end talents with cross-discipline backgrounds and establish a global-leading R&D and application platform for environmental big data.
The cooperation exemplified SDU's efforts to explore cross-discipline development and will promote the integration of disciplines related to the environment, ecology, computer science, and information, said Li Shucai, vice-president of SDU.
Wang Qiao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, introduced the general idea of the R&D and application of environmental big data in terms of its role, necessity, establishment goals, and research focus, and proposed a general development idea for the new discipline.
