Israeli Ambassador to China Irit Ben-Abba Vitale and her delegation visited Shandong University (SDU) on Dec 21, and unveiled the Shandong-Israel Exchange and Cooperation Research Center with Fan Liming, president of SDU, and other officials.
Fan welcomed Vitale and her delegation to SDU. She introduced the history, discipline characteristics, and SDU's global cooperation and exchange, and reviewed SDU's cooperation with Israeli universities and research institutions.
The establishment of the research center will further leverage SDU's advantages in research on Israel, and help boost the cooperation in cultural communication, education, and science and technology between China and Israel, Fan said.
As a founding member of the China-Israel 7+7 Research Universities Alliance, SDU has formed close cooperative relationships with Israeli universities including Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University (TAU), and Bar-Ilan University in the fields of liberal arts, science, engineering and medicine, Fan added.
Vitale expressed her appreciation for the cooperation between SDU and Israeli universities. She said that the embassy will continue to support and expand the cooperation in other fields between SDU and Israeli universities to promote more achievements through exchanges between students and scholars of both sides.
The ambassador and her delegation also visited SDU's key humanities and social sciences research base of the Ministry of Education such as the Center for Judaic and Inter-religious Studies, SDU-TAU Joint Institute for Jewish and Israeli Studies, and the Shandong University Museum.
Professor Fu Youde, director of the Center for Judaic and Inter-religious Studies, and Professor Liu Senlin, dean of the School of Philosophy and Social Development, introduced the discipline characteristics, the research achievements, and the cooperation with Israeli universities through SDU-TAU Joint Institute for Jewish and Israeli Studies.
Professor Fang Hui, director of the museum and dean of the School of History and Culture, introduced the development of SDU's archaeology major, such as the achievements in the joint archaeological excavation and student cultivation that SDU has made with international universities like the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, TAU, and the University of Haifa.
Representatives and officials from the Embassy of Israel in China, the Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Provincial People's Government and Shandong Provincial Department of Education as well as SDU's Department of International Affairs, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Philosophy and Social Development, the School of History and Culture, and the Center for Judaic and Inter-religious Studies attended the event.
