The Symposium on East Asian Philosophy, Ecological Aesthetics and Ecological Art was held on Dec 18 both online and offline.
The symposium was organized by Shandong University's Center for Literary Theory and Aesthetics and the School of Literature, as well as Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in South Korea.
Tan Haozhe, director of the Center for Literary Theory and Aesthetics, briefly reviewed academic cooperation between the center and the College of Confucian Studies and Eastern Philosophy of SKKU.
Tan said that the new topic of the symposium, ecological art, was a new frontier in East Asian ecological culture research. Ecological art creation in East Asian countries is not only influenced by ecological culture on a global scale, but also intrinsically connected with the traditional philosophy and aesthetic ideas of East Asian countries.
Professors, experts and scholars from the Center for Literary Theory and Aesthetics of SDU and the College of Confucian Studies and Eastern Philosophy of SKKU discussed the themes of the East Asian philosophy, ecological aesthetics, and ecological art at the symposium. They also made presentations on the topics.
Shin Jeong Geun, dean of the College of Confucian Studies and Eastern Philosophy of SKKU, said that this year's symposium covered a wide range of topics involving reflections on COVID-19, application of environmental ethics, and individual case studies of ecological art.
This symposium, which attracted 25 Chinese and South Korean representatives, had deepened communications between SDU's Center for Literary Theory and Aesthetics with foreign scholars and expanded the center's academic influence.
