The China-Vietnam Confucianism Dialogue was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Sept 26. It was co-organized by Shandong University (SDU), the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences (SDAS), the Confucius Research Institute, and the Institute of Philosophy under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS).
Centered on the historical development and future prospects of Confucianism studies in both countries, the dialogue brought together leading experts and scholars from both countries to share insights and foster academic collaboration.
At the opening ceremony, Wu Zhen, Executive Vice President of SDU, presented a collection of Confucian classics to VASS, to support the establishment of its Confucianism library.
Representing SDU, Wu also signed a memorandum of understanding on research collaboration and talent cultivation with the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, the Confucius Research Institute, and VASS. The four institutions have agreed to jointly undertake academic projects and develop shared platforms for scholarly exchange.
The dialogue served as a key platform for strengthening China-Vietnam educational cooperation, and the SDU delegation's visit further contributed to these efforts. During their stay in Hanoi, the SDU delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, Vietnam National University (VNU), and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) to explore deeper partnerships.
At the embassy, Counselor Luo Yaoguang commended SDU's efforts to promote academic exchanges between the two countries.
During a visit to Vietnam National University, Wu and VNU Vice President Pham Bao Son discussed expanding partnerships in basic sciences, engineering, and humanities, and explored initiatives such as the SDU-VNU-Goertek elite talent program together with Goertek Company.
At Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Wu met with Vice President Nguyen Phong Dien to discuss joint training as well as faculty and student exchanges. The three parties – SDU, HUST, and Goertek – also signed a memorandum of understanding on international talent development.
