Shandong University (SDU) and Kyrgyz National University (KNU) jointly hosted the Second SCO Countries Science, Education, and Economic-Trade Integration Forum in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Aug 18. The event marked the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The forum brought together scholars and representatives from universities, research institutions and government bodies in China and Kyrgyzstan to explore in-depth cooperation in science, education, trade and economic development.
At the opening ceremony, an SDU representative highlighted the university's research and practical cooperation within the SCO framework and said SDU would further expand exchanges with universities across SCO member states in joint research, talent development and academic cooperation.
KNU Rector Dogdurbek Chontoev emphasized the growing importance of integrating science, education, and the economy in the face of global challenges. He reviewed KNU's cooperation with universities and research institutions across SCO member states and expressed hope for further collaboration and shared opportunities for regional development.
The forum featured two themed sessions. One reviewed the SCO's development, achievements and experience over the past 25 years, while the other focused on economic and trade cooperation among member states and the role of science and education in supporting regional development.
Scholars from SDU presented research on SCO development, legal issues concerning cross-border investment, mineral resources cooperation, and institutional coordination. Participants also exchanged views on university partnerships, interdisciplinary collaboration and regional economic cooperation.
