Welcome to study in SDU! As one of the oldest government-run universities in China, Shandong University was founded in 1901. It is also the first university founded by statute. SDU is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education and is also listed in the 211 Project and 985 Project of China.

SDU is situated in Shandong Province, the birthplace of Qi-Lu culture and features its advantages in culture and history. SDU is beneficial from Confucianism as it is located in the hometown of Confucius. With the beautiful natural environment including the Mount Tai on the south and the Yellow Sea on the east, SDU have cultivated plenty of talents for generations. It is a key university typical of the research on Chinese traditional culture as well as the inheritance of Chinese virtue. Now it has developed into a high-level university with comprehensive disciplines, competitive academic strength and distinctive characteristics. The excellent educational tradition of SDU lies in the combination of knowledge, ability and quality into virtue. The students of SDU boast qualities of soundness, plainness and sureness which are in sync with SDU.

The first intake of international student's dates back to the 1950s. Since then the education and management system for international students has been developing continuously. Until now, quality programs have been set up to foster the growth of international students at SDU. Faculties here are very helpful and enthusiastic. Each year, over 1,000 international students from more than 110 countries come to study at SDU, bringing to the beautiful campus a wide-range of colorful cultures.
