Recently, the result of "My Journey in SDU" Essay/Photo Contest, jointly held by the Department of Publicity, Department of International Affairs and College of International Education of Shandong University, was released. After the expert appraisal and network voting, 11 international students made them stand out of the competition and won the prizes.

The contest started from December, 2015 to March. 2016. It aroused wide attention from all schools of SDU, and eighteen works of students from more than 10 countries including Pakistan, Ukraine, Nepal, South Africa, Congo, Bangladesh, Nigeria and so on, have contributed to it. The contest also built its website, on which contest notice was released, and all works from participants were on display for reading and voting. Around the themes of "your impression of SDU and anecdotes in studying here", "your life in Jinan", or "an encounter with Chinese culture", all of the essays and photos reflect the international students' colorful study life in Shandong University, and build a bridge between the Chinese and foreign cultures.

After the deadline of contributions, the contest organized network voting and expert appraisal. After students’ enthusiastic participation in the network voting, adhering to the principle of equity and fairness, experts on photography scored photos in terms of theme, thought, skill, and artistry, while teachers and experts on writing scored essays in terms of view and content, structure, expression, compatibility of pictures and content. In the process of expert appraisal, none of the participant personal information was provided to judges, so as to guarantee fairness. The expert appraisal results and network voting results were taken into comprehensive consideration and jointly produced the first, second and third prizes of the contest; the recommendation from experts produced the "Most Creative Award"; the network votes produced the "Most Popular Award".
