In this composition, I will share my experience of discoveringShandong Universityin general but specifically Qingdao-Campus. But before I go further allow me to express my profound gratitude and sincere appreciation for having been granted the opportunity to study atShandong University. My genuine gratitude goes to the Government of the People's Republic of China, and Shandong University Administration (SDU). Shandong University being a key comprehensive university directly under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China plays a very crucial role in the academic arena. Being one of the oldest renowned universities throughout the country and one of the high-ranking universities whose development is given priority by the states, indeed it gives me a great honor and privilege to call myself a student of this prestigious institution of learning in the region, well-known for its outstanding international programs. Indeed Shandong University is a great opportunity for me as an International Student to acquire the knowledge I intend and dream to have and also learn from people of different cultures, backgrounds, religions and values.
ØMy first day in Shandong University
It is said that "first impressions are lasting. and indeed it's doing so. My first day at Shandong University is an important event of my life. To me, it is an unforgettable day. Before coming to Shandong University I liked its structural design and the Conducive environment of learning which attracted me from far away, and made me develop a vast interest to study at Shandong University. And this made me furthermost curiously waiting the day when I would start my school life at Shandong University.
And here it comes when I was admitted to the School of Political Science and Public Administration. I entered the college premises with new hopes and aspirations. I was glad to see that the University presented a new sight. It was quite different from what I had seen in my previous institutions of learning. I came across many unknown faces. I had some very strange experiences on the first day of my college life. I was baffled to see the student playing indoor and outdoor games. I observe the students are free in their movements. They can do things according to their choice.
I found all the newly admitted students in high spirit. They were all happy to make friends. And based on that friendship spirit I made numerous friends in my short time here at Shandong University and both are Chinese Nationals and foreign students. Henceforth this has deepened my understanding of the resilient nature of intimacy Shandong University preserved. Nonetheless, I moved around the college. I was very much delighted to see Museum and the impressive Library of the University where I could find books on every subject. The University Library excited my interest on the first day and I got eager to perform experiments there. Moreover, I was surprised to have found a Piano on the ground floor of the library something I love most in which I never hesitated to play. In that evening I told myself silently that indeed Shandong University fulfills the dream of any of its student. I noted down the timetable received from the school coordinator. I attended the classes. I found that the teaching method at Shandong University is totally different from my previous schools. And strongly believe the student found here a homely atmosphere which they lack in their previous school. For this, they feel easy and comfortable here at Shandong University.
Life at Shandong University is significant; it brings everlasting memories and teaches me new lessons day by day. And with that, I'm sure I will have very positive and productive academic years ahead. The services provided by Shandong University contribute to a student's success primarily by providing a welcoming, safe, secure and supportive living and learning environment. Specifically, these services are in the areas of careers and entrepreneurship, health and wellness, counseling and campus activities like sports and cultural events or volunteer schemes.
ØLet me disclose some experience I gained from Shandong University in these few months here.
I come from a beautiful country far away from China in terms of geographical location known as South Sudan but our smooth bilateral relations brought us closer to each other and today I can proudly call china my second home or a home away from home and the same applies to all of us as one family under the umbrella of Shandong University- Qingdao campus, Coming to China has been such a wonderful experience for myself. I never expected to be welcomed so warmly into the community of Shandong University and the surrounding area. Not even a year into my program and such memorable experiences already I can barely count them all.
Lastly but not least I really feel that whatever the words and expressions of gratitude I use, they will not be enough, and they will never reveal the wonderful feelings I would like to convey. But being in Shandong University as an International Student I feel a new rhythm of life and very sure I will return home with a mixed sense of responsibility and liberty.
